Back on Sunday 13th December myself (Mark) and Matt Booker dropped in to Tesco Extra in Salisbury to have a look at the fun Star Wars Weekend events and snap a few photo’s. While there we chatted with a lovely lady called Helen who despite working for Tesco was also raising awareness for her friend, also called Helen (she’s the lady in the image above in the red dress) and the fundraising efforts that were going on to pull together enough money for her treatment to begin. Here’s why.
Helen Davies, just 50 years old, has twice been refused funding for a cancer drug despite the fact that her oncologist recommended she be given it. In February, her husband had a massive stroke from which he is still recovering. At the moment, they have carers coming to help them, but if she dies, her husband will have to go into a care home. “My children and husband need me. Who will look after him?” Helen needs this drug to give her the time to fight this disease and be with her family.
We walked in on Star Wars business and walked out determined to at the very least raise awareness of Helen’s plight. If you have any spare change jingling around in your bank account after the big Christmas spend, drop a few credits Helens’s way. As you can see by visiting her Just Giving page, every penny counts.
